Intermix at Buffer Festival

For a long time it's been one of my goals to try to help encourage and grow the filmmaking community on YouTube and to generate discussion on online distribution from filmmakers from all backgrounds.

This year at VidCon, with the help of Charlie McDonnell and Laura Chernikoff, I got the chance to see through a project I had been hoping to do for a while: have a mini-film festival screening at a YouTube convention to both show off some of the best shorts being put on the internet, but to also chat to a panel of filmmakers about their work and how the internet is disrupting traditional models of filmmaking.

(Left to Right) Yulin Kuang, Jack Harries, Charlie McDonnell, Tim Hautekiet, Emily Diana Ruth (that's me!) and Jeanette Bonds. Had to get group selfie once we were through - was very proud!

Intermix at VidCon was incredibly well attended by a group of respectful, interested and overall lovely people. We screened 11 amazing films and hosted a panel of  four incredible filmmakers, Yulin Kuang, Tim Hautekiet, Jeanette Bonds and Jack Harries. Charlie McDonnell moderated the discussion which went on well past its end time. (There was just too much to talk about!)  You can read a bit about the event here on the Daily Dot

So of course we're jazzed that Intermix will be presenting the Short Film programme at Buffer Festival filling up the 2:00-3:30pm slot on Friday October 17th at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in beautiful Toronto, Canada. Confirmed panelists so far include Jack and Finn Harries, Bertie Gilbert and hosted/moderated by Charlie McDonnell and me!

If you'll be in town, and you'd like to attend, you can buy tickets here.

Although much of Intermix is curated content, we're opening up to take submissions as we realise that some of the best filmmaking online might yet be undiscovered by us! If you're interested in submitting a film for consideration, please do so here by September 15th.

Thanks so much for reading, hope you're all very well on this cloudy Sunday (at least in London)!
